Primitive Jewelry
I've been working on some jewelry using a "primitive" theme. This is the first tile bracelet I've ever made. All of the carving was done by hand after the tiles were baked, and then I used some Studio by Sculpey Antiquing Medium in Chocolate Brown. Not sure what it is called now. The small beads, which I purchased in Hawaii, are made from coconuts. And of course, I had to make some matching earrings. I know the nasty fashionistas in New York decree that "matchy-matchy" is bad, but %$#$^& to them!

I love these!! I feel like going back to our roots gives us a sense of wisdom almost, and sometimes I just feel powerful wearing something that looks like it was hand-carved from stone. What material did you use to get that texture on the beads? Sponges?
ReplyDeleteI used some non-slip stair tread (looks like sandpaper) to do the texture. Then I used the Studio by Sculpey Antiquing Medium to add the brown color. It filled in the dots made by the stair tread.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I've always liked petroglyphs. Did you use ecru or a unique blend?
ReplyDeleteI used a unique blend, a bit whiter than ecru. When I textured it, the texture took up some of the brown liquid clay I used to bring out the carvings.
